| English | They may argue, "If there is no self that is the experiencer of suffering, what is the reason to work to prevent the suffering of other beings?” This is a baseless argument. Although ultimately there is no self, on the relative level, everyone, even the Carvakas, works to dispel suffering and does not wish to experience it. Thus those who wish to dispel their own suffering because they do not wish to experience it, must also dispel the suffering of other sentient beings because the suffering is similar. Those who do not wish to dispel others’ suffering should not work to dispel their own suffering, as it is similar. Again, all of these sufferings should be dispelled. |
