| English | Some may think, "Others’ mental continua and assemblage of physical aggregates are not the same as my own, therefore, I will not protect them. But my own earlier and later life and mental continuum are the same, so I will protect myself now from my own future suffering. Throughout my life, my assembly of physical aggregates is the same, so it is suitable for my hand to protect my leg from pain.” This so-called continuum is actually the arising of multiple mental moments in succession. The so-called assemblage is a gathering of multiple limbs such as hands and legs, and these are mere labels, like ants traveling in a continuous line without break, which is called a garland of ants, like the gathering of an assembly of elephants, horses and people called an army. These are false; there is no true single entity, because they are multiple entities. |
