English

It is appropriate to cure illnesses with harsh medical treatments such as bleeding, moxibustion, and so forth. But the Exalted Doctor, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, did not permit harsh practices for beginning religious practitioners. Instead, the Greatly Compassionate One advised that they very gradually and smoothly familiarize themselves with practices which will cure them of the infinite great diseases of the obscurations of defilement and cognition. Therefore, those who wish to pacify the disease of suffering should exert themselves in relying upon the medicine of the holy Dharma.
