| English | Third, in order to remove exaggerations and understatements in the view and conduct of the various schools, three hundred years after the Buddha entered mahaparinirvana, King Kaniska sponsored a gathering at a temple in Kashmir. Five hundred Bodhisattvas, five hundred Arhats, and two hundred fifty ordinary panditas gathered. They compiled their individual texts and recorded them in written script, which served to prolong the precious doctrine of the Buddha. |
