English

When practitioners consume food in order to strengthen their body for the purpose of others, they should divide their food into four portions: one portion to be given to Harita and the hungry ghosts who have fallen into the wrong path; one to be given to the protectorless, such as beggars and the sick; one to be given to those who are engaged in austerity such as the performance of pure conduct; and one portion to be consumed in the right amount without attachment and craving. Too much food will cause feelings of laxity; too little will make it impossible to practice virtue. Therefore consume a reasonable amount.
