For example, someone who has a wound on the body would be afraid that the wound would become infected in the midst of a crowd of untamed people engaging in wild activities, so would heedfully guard their wound. Likewise, Noble Ones guard the precepts always, from fear of the great suffering experienced by the wounded mind due to decline of the precepts that they wish to guard, in the midst of ordinary beings who are performing inappropriate actions due to defilement.
