English

For instance, how could one cover the entire earth to protect one’s feet from thorns and other harm? Where can such a large quantity of leather be found? However, by merely covering an area the size of a shoe sole, one’s foot is protected, which is equivalent to covering the entire earth. Similarly, how can one completely stop all of these unpleasant external causers of harm? It is impossible. But if one’s own mind retreats from thoughts of hatred and anger and abides in kindness, why would it be necessary to respond to external causers of harm?
