| English | One may think, "If a downfall occurs I can confess it and take the vow again.” However, giving up the Bodhisattva vow is a powerful downfall, and taking the Bodhisattva vow is a powerful virtue. Beings that accumulate both of these have an alternating mixture of that which is to be discarded and its antidote, so they remain in samsara, alternately taking a mixture of higher and lower rebirths. Thus it takes a long time to attain the Bodhisattva stage of great joy, not to mention the long duration of time needed to attain ultimate great enlightenment. |
