| English | Householder Bodhisattvas should dwell in giving Dharma and giving materials. Renunciates should dwell in giving Dharma and materials such as pens, ink, and scriptures. Those who have reached the stage of patience of unborn phenomena should dwell in the three types of giving which are: giving which is making a gift of one’s kingdom; great giving which is making a gift of one's spouse, son, or daughter; and greatest giving which is making a gift of one’s head, limbs, eyes, skin, marrow, and the like. The ability to give these gifts should be developed gradually. Impure giving should be discarded, such as giving gifts of poison, weapons, slaughtered meat, alcohol, and the like. Dwelling in pure giving brings both temporary and ultimate benefit to the recipients. |
