Thomson Wadsworth
Thomson Corporation acquired Wadsworth Publishing from Prentice-Hall in 1979, which marked Thomson's entry into the college textbook and professional publishing market. The company operated out of 10 Davis Drive in Belmont, California.
Thomson Wadsworth was known for publishing textbooks across various academic disciplines, including sociology, political science, criminal justice, psychology, and many other college-level subjects. They were part of a larger educational publishing operation that served colleges, universities, and libraries.
In 2000, Thomson Learning was created through a restructuring of International Thomson Publishing. Then in 2006, Thomson Corporation announced plans to sell its learning division. The company was purchased by private equity firms Apax Partners and OMERS Capital Partners for $7.75 billion, and renamed Cengage Learning on July 24, 2007.
Today, Wadsworth is no longer an independent publisher but continues as an imprint under Cengage Group (formerly Cengage Learning). The Wadsworth brand is still used for certain academic publications, though the company has been fully integrated into Cengage's operations. Cengage is now one of the largest educational publishers in the United States, focusing on digital learning solutions alongside traditional textbooks.
