Sūtrālaṃkārādiślokadvayavyākhyāna/Full text
The Sūtrālaṃkārādiślokadvayavyākhyāna ("An Explanation of the First Two Verses of the Sūtrālaṃkāra") is a short commentary by the Kashmiri paṇḍita Parahitabhadra (also known as Somaśrī) on the first two verses of the first chapter of Maitreya's Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra ("Ornament of the Mahāyāna Sūtras"). The text was composed at the temple of Thugs dams kha char and translated into Tibetan by Parahitabhadra together with the Śākya monk and translator gZhon nu mchog, who was active in the late eleventh to early twelfth century. The commentary engages in close philological and philosophical analysis of the opening verses, drawing on Yogācāra doctrine including the three natures (trisvabhāva) and the relationship between conventional designation (ming, nāma), conceptual construction (rnam par rtog pa, vikalpa), suchness (de bzhin nyid, tathatā), and nondeceptive pristine awareness (yang dag pa'i ye shes, samyagjñāna).
