Mahāsūtrasamuccaya/Full text
The Mahāsūtrasamuccaya is a large anthology of sūtra excerpts compiled by Atiśa (c. 980?–1054), preserved in the Tibetan Tengyur (Derge 3961). It is one of three major Indian Buddhist scriptural anthologies alongside the Sūtrasamuccaya attributed to Nāgārjuna and Śāntideva's Śikṣāsamuccaya, though notably there is minimal overlap in citations between the three works. The Mahāsūtrasamuccaya is organized in numbered sections and draws on a wide range of Mahāyāna sūtras. A critical edition was produced by Mochizuki (2004), with sūtra identifications established in Mochizuki (2002). Philological analysis of its Tibetan translation suggests that, like the other anthologies, its translators largely adopted pre-existing Kangyur translations of the quoted sūtras rather than producing independent renderings.
