Śālistambakamahāyānasūtraṭīkā/Full text
The Śālistambakamahāyānasūtraṭīkā (Tib. 'Phags pa sA lu ljang pa zhes bya ba theg pa chen po'i mdo'i rgya cher bshad pa, "Extensive Commentary on the Noble Mahāyāna Sūtra of the Rice Sprout") is a prose commentary on the Śālistambakakārikā, the verse rendering of the Śālistambasūtra. Like the verses, it is attributed in its colophon to Ācārya Nāgārjuna. It explains the verses one by one, quoting the corresponding passages of the sūtra, and so serves as a commentary on both. Along the way it refutes the view that things arise from themselves, from something other, from both, from a creator such as Īśvara, from time, from inherent nature, or without a cause, and it explains the twelve links of dependent origination in detail. Like the verses, it uses Yogācāra terms, including the foundation consciousness (kun gzhi rnam par shes pa), the three natures, and the statement that the three realms are mind only (sems tsam). In its closing verse the author says the commentary was kept to twelve hundred [verses' length] so that those of lesser understanding could follow it. It is in four sections (bam po). It was translated by the Indian preceptor Dharmaśrīprabha with the translators Legs pa'i blo gros and Jñānakumāra, and edited by the chief editor Dpal brtsegs.
