The Sherig Publishing House was established on May 23, 1961, in accordance with the wishes of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Its primary objectives were:

1. To recover and preserve the precious religious and cultural texts
2. To provide comprehensive textbooks from primary to twelfth grade for young Tibetan refugees, covering their language, culture, and historical heritage

Additionally, the publishing house was established in 1961 to meet the needs of interested individuals, both Tibetan and international, who wanted to learn about Tibetan culture and religion.
