The Private Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, also known as Kuger Yigtsang in Tibetan, is responsible for managing all matters related to His Holiness and acting on his behalf. Its main duties include:
  • Organizing the Dalai Lama's schedule, including appointments and travels within India and internationally.
  • Handling diplomatic, governmental, and personal correspondence for His Holiness.
  • Serving as a liaison between the Dalai Lama and officials of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile.
  • Arranging public and private audiences with His Holiness.
  • Coordinating His Holiness' teaching schedule and invitations for various events worldwide.

The office has seen a significant increase in workload since the mid-1980s due to the Dalai Lama's expanded travel programs. It carefully screens requests for private audiences and manages His Holiness' participation in religious, social, cultural, and political events globally.
