Tushita Books

Tushita Books was a small Buddhist publishing imprint based in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India, active in the late 1970s. It is associated with the Tushita Retreat Centre in McLeod Ganj, the FPMT-affiliated centre founded under Lama Thubten Yeshe. Its best-documented publication — and possibly its only widely held title — is Glenn H. Mullin's 1978 translation Essence of Refined Gold by the Third Dalai Lama, with Related Texts by the Second and Seventh Dalai Lamas (Dharamsala: Tushita Books, 1978), which was Mullin's first major translation work. The book was later republished in an expanded edition by Snow Lion Publications (Ithaca, 1985). Tushita Books should not be confused with Tushita Publications, the unrelated Australian imprint of the Tibetan Buddhist Society associated with Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden.
