Acharya Sempa Dorje was a Buddhist polymath, former Tibetan Buddhist monk and Buddhist practitioner with mastery in Hindi, Tibetan, Sanskrit, and Pali language. A native of Kinnaur in northern India, he completed his Buddhist philosophical training in pre-1959 Tibet. He continued his studies, complementing them with contemporary education at Sanskrit University. He taught for several decades at Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies and served as a tutor to the Seventeenth Karmapa, Thaye Dorje.
