Ngulchu Dharmabhadra was born into a family of poor shepherds and became one of the greatest Geluk scholars of the nineteenth century. He studied at Ngulchu Hermitage and Tashilhunpo, and spent most of his life in retreat, composing nearly two hundred texts that are collected in ten volumes.
