My Life's a Cage

The project "My Life's a Cage" is a collective commitment to the animal cause that began in 2014. It originated from the eponymous song by the band The Aim. The purpose of this song is to give a voice to those who have none: exploited animals on their way to the slaughterhouse. The idea of producing a film (a short fiction and animated film) was supported by a generous public who funded a portion of the project.

This first film, "My Life's a Cage," was released in June 2015, directed and produced by Guillaume Corpard, the singer and songwriter of the track. Meanwhile, the illustrator Nicolas Debruyn spent over a year creating the animated music video. "My Life's a Cage" is surrounded by numerous official supporters, including Jane Goodall (UN Messenger of Peace), journalist and author Aymeric Caron, Buddhist monk and author Matthieu Ricard, author Frédéric Lenoir, author and TV presenter Christine Michaud, director Jérôme Lescure, L214 Éthique et Animaux, the Vegetarian Association of France, Animaux en Péril, and GAIA.

Today, an increasing number of personalities and organizations are joining the collective. "My Life's a Cage" provided an opportunity for many film professionals to meet as volunteers around a generous idea: committing to animals. Indeed, a Franco-Belgian technical team, along with actors and public figures, came together to film this poetic fable. Among them were athlete Camille Lacourt (world swimming champion), actor Alexandre Laigner (lead role in the film ALF – Animal Liberation Front), the young actress Sofia de Zan, and journalist Aymeric Caron.

"My Life's a Cage" marks the beginning, we hope, of a broad artistic movement for animals, aiming to awaken the public to the concepts of compassion and benevolence for all sentient beings. More generally, we are committed to a future that is more ecological, more humane, and more "conscious." In our view, animals, humans, and nature as a whole are treasures to be preserved and protected within a framework of peace and elevated consciousness. On our own scale, we hope to participate in "new bright futures" for upcoming generations.

However, our philosophy is to act positively without passing judgment. We do not wish to reduce our actions to negative criticism, insults, or division. We do not separate compassion for humans from compassion for animals. In our view, our hearts are large enough to encompass the entire world: nature, humans, animals, and the earth. In short, our motto is: let us love!

This is our charter on social media: "Let us debate, let us provoke, let us convince! But if we want a better world, if we want peace, let us be its best messengers: let us open peaceful debates. This is how we will convince others regarding slaughter and suffering. For that is what we are talking about here: the fate, as appalling as it is senseless, that we reserve for animals, our sentient and intelligent cousins."

Indeed, we believe it is urgent to change our behavior toward animals. It is peace and solidarity toward everyone that will help us intelligently win the challenge that awaits us in the 21st century. Furthermore, we are certain that behaving peacefully toward animals and nature in general will naturally lead us to be peaceful among ourselves as humans. We therefore advocate for a shared benevolence, based on the idea that we are all one on this planet.
