International Buddhist Academy

The International Buddhist Academy (IBA) was established in 2001 by the late Khenchen Appey Rinpoche, an eminent Sakyapa scholar and teacher, whose students include luminaries such as His Holiness the Sakya Trizin, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and Sogyal Rinpoche.

Khenchen Appey Rinpoche initially created IBA as a research centre for the collection and preservation of rare and important Tibetan Buddhist philosophy texts. He supervised their conversion to digital files that facilitate printing and distribution to monastic colleges and libraries. The texts are now being translated into many languages for global dissemination. He also initiated IBA as an educational centre where non-Tibetan students from around the world could study the texts of the great scholars of early, pre-sectarian Buddhist India in depth and detail, and learn the Tibetan language for intensive studies of the Tibetan commentaries of these texts.
