New World Library

New World Library is a socially and environmentally conscious publisher dedicated to books and media focused on personal growth, spirituality, wellness, and creativity. Founded in 1977 in Oakland, California, by Marc Allen and Shakti Gawain as Whatever Publishing, the company began as a shoestring operation that generated just $800 in its first year. Their early title Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain became an international bestseller with over six million copies sold.

The company changed its name to New World Library in the mid-1980s and has since grown into an eight-figure business with over 600 titles in its backlist. Notable imprints include Eckhart Tolle Editions, launched in 2015, and partnerships with the Joseph Campbell Foundation. The publisher's bestselling authors include Eckhart Tolle, Joseph Campbell, Deepak Chopra, Dan Millman, and Alice Walker, among many others.

New World Library maintains strong environmental commitments, using soy-based ink on recycled paper and powering its Northern California office with solar energy. The company remains true to its founding vision of personal and planetary transformation through inspirational and practical publishing. (Adapted from Source Feb 10, 2026)
