KPJRI derives its name from Kashi Prasad Jayaswal, one of the great nationalist historians of the first half of the twentieth century. His celebrated works include Hindu Polity, History of India 150 AD to 350 A.D.. An Imperial History of India, the Rajniti Ratnakar of Chandesvara, and Tagore Law Lecture of Manu, Yajnavalkya etc. In his work 'Hindu Polity', Jayaswal addressed the criticism of the colonial historiography that Indians were unfit for self-rule, and tried to demonstrate how the world's first democracy had flourished at Vaishali.
