Hamburg University Press is the Open Access publication service of the Hamburg Carl von Ossietzky State and University Library (SUB Hamburg). The publishing house is a non-profit institution of the SUB Hamburg (commercial operation). It follows the golden path of open access: all publications are available online for free reading and free downloading as well as for subsequent use.

Hamburg University Press publishes selected works (usually first publications) by scientists at Universität Hamburg, other Hamburg universities and colleges, and other scientific and science-related institutions. The publication service is a non-profit institution of the SUB Hamburg (commercial operation) and supports scientists with innovative services and up-to-date software in contemporary publishing on science-friendly conditions.

The publications are released under a Creative Commons license ( CC BY 4.0 or CC BY SA 4.0 ). This license encourages the distribution of the works and encourages their re-use. In this way, Open Access and Open Science are supported.

All books are published in parallel as high-quality print-on-demand editions. The printed books can be ordered from bookshops and the publisher's website.

The hosting of scientific Diamond Open Access journals without article fees (so-called APC) is also offered. Diamond Open Access means Open Access journals and platforms that are freely available to both authors and readers.
