The publishing house is seeking membership in the international Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) , an association of approximately 160 meditation and study centers, social projects and publishing houses, most of which were founded by Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-1984) . . .
It has existed since 1984 and emerged from the work of the Aryatara Institute in Munich. At the time the publishing house was founded, larger publishers were not yet interested in the subject of Buddhism, and so friends of this teaching created a forum for the publication of traditional writings and teachings of contemporary teachers, in particular Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche .
On the one hand, the publishing team is concerned with passing on the ideas of these teachers and their western students. On the other hand, we publish basic texts edited by qualified translators and editors that are irreplaceable for teaching practice but are often of no interest to commercially oriented publishers.
Much of the work is done on a voluntary basis, and many translations are financed by sponsors. Publishing work is therefore a form of spiritual practice for publishers, translators, editors and sponsors. (Adapted from Source Dec 19, 2024)
