Dharma Samudra

Dharma Samudra is a non-profit publishing organization founded in 1985 by Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche (1942–2010) and Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche, two brothers from the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism who moved to New York in 1982 to work closely with His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche. The press was established initially to publish a Tibetan-language edition of eleven volumes of hidden treasure teachings (terma) revealed by the seventeenth-century treasure revealer Tsasum Lingpa. It subsequently expanded to publish English-language translations and transcriptions of teachings by the two Khenpo Rinpoches covering Dzogchen, Vajrayana practice, Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, and prayer texts (sādhana). The press is affiliated with Padmasambhava Buddhist Center (PBC), founded by the same lamas in 1989, and is based at Padma Samye Ling Monastery in Walton, New York.

Sādhana - Sādhana refers to a method of practice through which one can actualise a specific spiritual result, and by extension to the texts and manuals which present such methods. A sādhana in the Vajrayāna Buddhist context generally involves the worship and visualisation of a tantric deity, chanting of mantras, and associated practices. The practice often begins with verses of taking refuge and cultivating altruistic thought, then carrying out meditation on emptiness and the mandala of deity, seven-part worship, chanting of mantras, and finally the dissolution of the deity which was visualised.
