British India Press
The British India Press was a major commercial printing and publishing operation located at Mazagaon, Bombay. Founded by Hussonally Abdoolally, it grew into the largest print operation in colonial Bombay by the early twentieth century. By 1917 its facilities were described as fully self-contained, encompassing letterpress printing, lithography, engraving, copperplate printing, die-stamping, bookbinding, stereotyping, and type-casting, with vernacular printing capabilities in fourteen languages. The press served railways, shipping companies, banks, and publishing firms, and produced a wide range of scholarly, literary, and commercial publications. Among the journals it printed was the Indian Antiquary, a major venue for Indological scholarship published from 1872 onward.
