Description

This book was created by the North American Tibetan Association (NATA) for the two day teaching by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and Gratitude Tenshug event, held on July 9 and 10, 2015 in New York City.

His Holiness's teachings were based on: The Middle Stages of Meditation by Kamalashila. This concise text teaches how to generate the two kinds of bodhichitta, conventional and ultimate, both of which are permeated by kindness and compassion and serve as the roots for all qualities of Buddhahood.

This event was held in observance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's 80th birthday. (Source: Book Introduction)

Translation of

Bhāvanākrama of Kamalaśīla (2 of 3)
The second Bhāvanākrama considers many of [the] same topics [as the first], stressing that the achievement of the fruition of buddhahood requires the necessary causes, in the form of the collection of merit (puṇyasaṃbhāra) and the collection of wisdom (jñānasaṃbhāra). Both the first and second works espouse the doctrine of mind only (cittamātra); it is on the basis of these and other statements that Tibetan doxographers classified Kamalaśīla as a Yogācāra-Svātantrika-Madhyamaka.
