Bihar Puravid Parishad
Bihar Puravid Parishad (बिहार पुरविद परिषद्, also rendered Bihar Purāvid Pariṣad) is a scholarly society based in Patna, Bihar, India, dedicated to the study of archaeology, ancient history, and the antiquities of the Bihar region. Founded in the mid-1970s, the Parishad began publishing its flagship periodical, the Journal of the Bihar Puravid Parishad (ISSN 0976-5107), with its inaugural volume in 1977; the journal has continued across numerous subsequent volumes, covering topics such as archaeological excavations (including sites like Chirand and the Vikramashila Mahāvihāra at Antichak), inscriptions, numismatics, and Buddhist and Jaina antiquities, alongside broader regional political, social, and cultural history. Beyond its journal, the Parishad has also published edited volumes arising from seminars and felicitations, including festschrift volumes honoring scholars in the field — among them Facets of Indian Culture: Gustav Roth Felicitation Volume (1998), edited by Chitta Ranjan Prasad Sinha. Figures associated with the society's publications include B. P. Sinha, Chitta Ranjan Prasad Sinha, and Basudev Narayan.
